How Clean Is Your Colon?

How clean is your colon?  This is not a typical question for someone to ask, but we're friends, right?  And friends want the best for each other.  I want you to be in tip top shape while we go on our journey to living healthy and wealthy.  And it's time we clear the air about the things we're putting in our bodies that could potentially impede our progress.

Let's start by becoming familiar of what our colon is and what it does.

The colon is about six feet long and is the part of the body's digestive system that moves waste material from the small intestine to the rectum. The small intestine sucks all the nutrients out of what you eat and then passes on the leftover waste to the large intestine, the first part of which is the colon

As the colon transports the waste material toward the rectum, it absorbs water from the waste. It may also absorb harmful materials. The longer it takes for waste to pass through the colon, the greater the chance of absorbing such materials.

For the most part, you can tell how long waste sits in your colon by how often you poop. In general, the more you poop, the faster your colon is "processing" material.

Your colon handles massive amounts of toxic waste every day. If that’s allowed to sit in your body for too long, it can be continually reabsorbed into your bloodstream, leading to a whole host of long-term health problems. Experts recommend regular colon cleansing to help keep your body healthy and functioning, but the colon cleanse that works like a charm for one person might just end up causing cramping and bloating in another.

With that being said, when was the last time you had a total-system detox?  Never had one?  Well now is the time for you to clean your pipe - unclog your drain and give the tidy bowl man something to "do."

I was shocked to learn that most people only "poop" once or twice a week!  That's unbelievable for me because I am one of the most "regular" people you'll ever meet.  I go at least 2 to 3 times a day.  Relatively speaking, you should "go" after every meal.  Which means at least 3 times a day.  Not 3 times a week or a month and God forbid a year!
Here is a word of advice when it comes to cleansing. NATURAL IS ALWAYS THE BEST WAY TO GO. Try to stay away from those so-called quick fixes like colonic and water detox therapies or the ones where prescription drugs are involved. They might get your the results you want immediately, but you run the serious risk of complications that can sometimes be deadly. I don't want to scare anyone or make any claims that would lead you to think I am diagnosing, treating or curing any situation as a medical expert. But what I know is this - all of our ailments can be cured naturally, without drugs. It's biblical. If you don't believe me, read the book of Genesis.

Aside from cleansing, a tune-up in your diet is in order.  I won't go into too many details today, I'll save that for another blog - maybe tomorrow.  But what I will tell you is that you should be drinking  half your weight in water or at least 80 to 100 ounces of H2O everyday.  And you need to get plenty of fruits, vegetables and fiber-rich foods in your diet.  Just those simple changes will help clear the runway for toxins to leave your body.

My last recommendation for keeping your colon as clean as you can is to do a detox 4 times a year.  A good way to remember when it's time for your system tune-up is to do it at the start of every season - winter, spring, summer fall.  If you stick to that time frame, that means every 90 days you are giving your body the attention it needs for peak performance.  Just like you change the oil in your car -- you should schedule seasonal maintenance for your body.  Not only will you feel like a new person, you'll look like one too.  You might even begin to have fewer recurring illnesses like colds and allergies.  And for those of us always fighting the battle of the bugle, you'll like what you start seeing on the scale too.
